Amatola Water - Amanzi

amatolaAmatola Water is a state-owned, non-profit business enterprise accountable to the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, created jointly by national, provincial and local community stakeholders to serve as a multi-service, bulk water services provider. Its core aim is to assist local government in the effective development and sustainable provision of safe, reliable water supply and waste water services. Amatola Water is fully committed to improving the quality of people’s lives and recognises the challenges facing national, provincial and local government in the water sector. The eradication of water and sanitation backlogs is central to the supportive role that Amatola Water plays in this regard.

With its headquarters in East London in the Eastern Cape province, Amatola Water operates twelve plants and seven sub-regional, bulk distribution networks in a designated services area of 45 794 km2 covering most of the Amathole and part of the Chris Hani District Municipalities. It offers comprehensive contract services to all local municipalities for water abstraction, treatment, bulk supply and water quality monitoring for domestic, industrial and agricultural use.
In response to market demands and opportunities Amatola Water has developed its secondary servicing capability.
Amatola Water’s Service agreements are devised for the operation and maintenance of customer-owned water treatment and plant as well as reticulation installations. Amatola Water also supports these services with a range of complementary managerial, technical and laboratory related advisory services tailored to meet the needs of major industry and other institutional customers.

Project Implementation
Amatola Water covers a comprehensive project implementation and project management function. The scope of work may encompass single or multiple projects and services are rendered from inception to the final handover of the completed project.
Bulk Water Purification & Distribution
Amatola Water’s primary and core function is that of supplying bulk water services (potable water and sanitation). This service includes operation and maintenance of water treatment works and dams.
Sanitation Services
Amatola Water has the capacity to provide bulk sanitation services as part of its core function. In addition, Amatola Water offers services in rural sanitation implementation and health and hygiene implementation skills.
Analytical Services
Scientific Services, a secondary function for Amatola Water, includes the analysis of raw and treated water samples for external and internal customers, according to SANS Class 1 Standards. This includes monitoring and management of water quality through comprehensive results analysis. The Amatola Water laboratory is accredited by SANAS in accordance with ISO 17025 specifications.
Community Water & Sanitation Project Facilitation
Amatola Water provides institutional and social development services for water projects and schemes. This service includes awareness programmes on water and sanitation.
Emergency Operational Systems Restoration

Expertise in operations and maintenance is provided for emergency audit and intervention services in situations where water services are halted due to mechanical failure.
