Cape Town BRT takes shape
After years of planning and promises, Cape Town’s Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system is taking shape, much to the relief of those commuters travelling into the CBD from Parklands and the surrounding areas. With the continuing expansion and development of Parklands, rush-hour traffic snarl-ups have become the bane of local residents and visitors lives.
The road changes necessary to accommodate the BRT have increased congestion at times to a gridlock. Seeing the new roads and termini nearing completion has turned frustration into hope and now that hope is turning into reality.
Tony Clarke of the Parklands Joint Venture (Milnerton Estates Ltd. / Aska Property Group (Pty) Ltd.), responsible for the development of Parklands from inception says, “Understandably patience has been running a little thin over the years, specifically with regard to the egress and ingress to the area, but Parklands was developed in the knowledge that more roads and the BRT were all part of the original plan”.
The slow but steady recovery from recession coupled with interest rate decreases have had an extremely positive effect on the ‘Live, work and play’, ideology behind the development of Parklands. “Demand for plots has increased substantially over the last few months, attributable to several factors. As well as the improvement in the economy and lower interest rates, banks are being more accommodating with bond applications. The over-riding factor however is the cost-effectiveness and affordability of plots and properties in Parklands”, continues Clarke.
The completion of the BRT and surrounding construction will be extremely attractive to investors. Buying to rent has always been popular in Parklands and with easier access into town, prospective tenants will obviously be drawn to the area.
“Our ‘Live, work and play’ approach to the area has been the cornerstone of the development of Parklands. Employment and enjoyment near your home is an extremely attractive and environmentally friendly option,” says Clarke.
