Following the recent Special National Conference held in September at Gallagher Estate, the South African Local Government Association's Provincial Executive Committees (PECs) will convene their makgotla to reflect on the organisation's strategic objectives in planning for the 2013/14 financial year.

Salga’s annual PEC and NEC makgotlas are platforms for the association to engage stakeholders that play a critical role within the local government sector, and will take place over two days in each province, with the first day dedicated to engagements with external stakeholders and the second day set aside for strategic reflection on internal issues.

The primary objective of these makgotla is to provide strategic and political direction to Salga with regard to assessing the progress made in the implementation of the 2012/2017 Salga Strategic Plan as well as the formulation of the Annual Performance Plan for the 2013/2014 financial year.

Provincial makgotla in the North West and Limpopo have already been held, with the makgotla in Mpumalanga, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape earmarked to convene between 6 and 11 December.

Key stakeholders that have been identified to participate in the makgotla include the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Department of Public Service and Administration, Treasury, trade union federations, National Council of Provinces, Statistics South Africa, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority, South African Cities Network as well as the Municipal Demarcation Board, among others.
