Municipal Managers' Forum

Bojanala Platinum District hosts the fifth SALGA national gathering

The Municipal Managers' Forum was established by SALGA as a means to provide valuable information

The Municipal Manager’s Forum established as a platform for Municipal Managers (MMs) to share knowledge and experiences f,orms part of SALGA’s objective of fulfilling its role to provide advice and support to municipalities.

As SALGA seeks to strengthen its interface with its municipal managers, providing a platform for them to provide technical input to policy and legislative processes is critical towards enabling them to inform and shape the agenda of the association.

In the 2012-2017 Strategic Agenda for Local Government as adopted by the National Executive Committee of SALGA in January 2012, three areas are identified as strategic priorities which if addressed will contribute to the  overhaul of the local government system and enable it to better  deliver  on its mandate. The three priorities are:

• Legislative and policy review

• Financial and fiscal review

• Building capacity in municipalities

This fifth MM’s forum takes place on the eve of the release of  municipal audit outcomes for 2011/12 hence  the theme chosen for this meeting being “Consolidating Municipal Audits Towards 2014”.

The programme for the two days is planned to be interactive in nature and will include panel discussions where municipalities will share knowledge, experiences and challenges as well as get an opportunity to engage with the Auditor General of South Africa and other practitioners in the municipal finance arena who will share insights on crafting paths to achieving better audit outcomes.

Participants will also be able to engage with other key issues affecting municipalities such as municipal human resource management, professionalisation of local government and other emerging legislation.
